Title: re-seat the bow-eye?
Post by: gever on Sep 08, 2024, 11:55 PM
Still working through the little details on this (new to me) boat. Yesterday when I was attaching the winch hook to the boat, I noticed that the bow-eye is loose. I probably has 1/8" of wiggle side to side.   I think the proper thing, if I'm noticing the right details from Captain Perry (YouTube Channel (https://youtube.com/@ocean_capable_small_sailboat?si=DrGneLmtVfhYOoxe)), the right thing to do is:

Sound about right?

That sounds about right. Overdrill the original holes.

While you are waiting for the epoxy to set, Dismantle the winch support and spray it with cold galvanizing and replace the bolts holding the winch. Might as well, you're going to have to do it in the future anyway.  ;)

Oh, good catch on the winch support, and that's an excellent way for me to start thinking about these repairs; "what can I do while I have X taken apart?"

I have to replace the connectors on the mast (and now probably run some fresh wire while I'm at it).

Thanks!
