Title: Priapism!
Post by: Riley Smith on Nov 06, 2024, 03:02 PM
SO....the mast fits into an octagonal receptacle and is pretty snug. Well, what just happened is a small strap managed to get up into the hole and RILEY isn't getting it to come out. I'm at the ramp, soaking wet from the rain, trying to rig a jacking lever with the tiller. Actually the rain felt good as I wasn't sweating. But I couldn't get it down.

About then my wife called looking for me. So, she called my son-in-law that happened to be nearby and got him to come help. Hey, I'm not bragging ( well, only a little) but the dang varnish and wet on the mast wouldn't let me get a good grip. I didn't have a dry stitch on me anyway... so David comes riding up and gets on the bow and yanks it out of the hole. Man I was glad he was around.

And the sail? It was fun, dodging tugboats and steel hulls in a foggy rain and they got some eye candy. Not many sailboats in THAT bayou! I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

I've been known to call on my son. Heck he is taller, stronger, and maybe even wiser at this stage. Wet! It is a water sport after all. ;D That type of sailing makes you feel alive and alert.

Riley, I'm really pleased that you could get it up.

I have called my younger son (23 YO) more than once to give me a hand. He is 6 feet tall, 210lbs and big muscles. I'm 67 YO, short and thin, so I really appreciate it when he is around to help. Since he is now working full time, I've mostly lost him as crew. Not only did he make short work of raising/lowering the mast, but made great "ballast" on the rail (rail meat).
