Balanced lug sailing canoe.

Decked canoe with a windsurfer sail and carbon fiber mast.
Guy has a second bigger sail and mast, but wanted this one, for the wind conditions that day.
I thought, what a novel approach: Don't Reef!! :D Just change out the whole damn' rig!! ;D

ComPac Picnic Cat.
Ho Hum; ::) Classic Plastic.
(I can say that now, that I'm going to get rid of Urchin and start sailing a hand-built wood/composite sailboat.) 8)

Herreshoff-designed Haven 12½
Always turns a lot of heads, when it hits the beach.

Ya know, some boats are well-built boats, and some boats are more akin to fine furniture.

One of a couple of Wayfarers, that showed up.
20250503_120837 1024X768.jpg
By golly! Ken's proa actually SAILS!! :o
Home-made motor boat at right, looked like a scaled-down Chris Craft runabout from the 40's.

Still finding the "groove". :-\
20250503_121030 1024X768.jpg
Texas Tri heading out . . . . . after he clears the sand bar behind him, that is. :P
Chris watching from his vantage position on/in the water's edge, while we munch our subs, for lunch..

Rhodes 19.
Sail organization is not his strong suit; the jib was dragging in the water when he beached it. :-[
20250503_122047 1024X768.jpg
THAT'S better!! :D
20250503_122103 1024X768.jpg

A Pre-Hutchins, Clark Mills era, ComPac with swing keel.

John Gardner designed Chamberlain Gunning Dory

Totally FORGOT!! ??? What this one was.
Sharpy? ??? Dory? ??? Dunno. ???
20250503_122834 1024X768.jpg
Lineage on this one is unmistakable for John Welsford fans; a Welsford Pathfinder, with an added cabin.
20250503_123023 1024X768.jpg
For a future SCAMP owner, ya gotta love it! ;D
20250503_123048 1024X768.jpg
Chris opened up his sails, for some pics.
20250503_123114 1024X768.jpg
Much bigger turn-out than I had thought would happen, since Cedar Key was trashed so severely by hurricanes, last fall.

40 sailors, 60 opinions.

ANOTHER Sea Pearl showed up! This hull was the protype for the Sea Pearls, when they were first figuring out how they wanted to configure them.
20250503_123331 1024X768.jpg
A little different than Chris's boat, huh?
20250503_123340 1024X768.jpg
Guy delights in telling anyone who will listen, that this is a Crotch Island Pinky!! ;)
Love the sail reefing: Just wad it up, like a hand towel! :D

Sea Pearl tri suffered a lee-board mishap. :P

Dozens of great boats and 4 different types of hats.
When are those people going to get into personal designs and colors on their heads.
Love the H12-1/2 knock-offs.
Is that a Goat Island Skiff?
Yes, it was.
Thanks for the write-ups CB. Our Messabout is in about 4 weeks.

Me too. The Haven is a Joel White (son of E.B. White the author) centerboard adaptation of the original Herreshoff keelboat. The WoodenBoat School in Brooklin, Maine has a few H12-1/2's in their fleet and sheds as well as classes restoring them. I was in the class last year. The Brooklin Yard also had a few more of them that were easy to see up close. And then there is the Herreshoff museum itself in RI...
Spot, Shows how much I know! :-[
Guy mentioned Joel White while he was talking about the boat and I thought it was just some guy he knew! :P
Question 1) Will I ever stop learning? ???
Question 2) Will I ever have personal insights that are not painful? :'(
Ah, well.
Thanks for the clarification,
Charles Brennan

No worries CB, they are a fun family of boats to look at/ sail/ talk about, etc...and I was glad to have had some time with them last year.

Well, look at that! I know I've come across the doughdish in my browsing but hadn't associated it with 12-1/2. I was thinking specifically of the Haven and SS. Just goes to show you what a great design the 12-1/2 is.
