Title: Remove mast cap on Potter 19?
Post by: gever on Jun 28, 2025, 06:25 PM
I'm wondering about the best way to remove the top of my mast so that I can route new cables for the anchor light and a new radio antenna. It seems like it might just be press-fit, but I haven't found any documentation. Anyone actually removed/replaced it?IMG_1743.jpeg

Gever, Judging from the pic alone, at the very least, the pop-rivets holding the halyard block would have to be drilled out.  I had to replace my mast in 2016 and had a similar experience. Drill out the old rivets, tap out the old mast cap, tap it into the new mast and drill new holes for new rivets.  Fairly straightforward, once you start.
Here's a pic showing the pencil markings for where to drill the hole, for the new rivet and the mast cap partially tapped in.

In your case, you could simply re-use the holes you drilled out.

Hope this helps,
