IF...you can catch the afternoon with the daily storms gone past, sometimes you can get some wind late in the evening. Wind is not a big part of summer here UNLESS you have a storm somewhere close. I mean, something you can sail in rather than fighting for your life in a hurricane while lightning bolts are all around. Like this evening, it's pretty nice since the deluge missed us by a 1/4 mile and threw up overcast to shield the sun. Lot of lightning and I think I did feel a cool breeze once. This time, more is to the west of me and any of it may redevelop and I'm passing, but I gave it a serious thought. I've rigged up in 90 F weather before ( and massive humidity) and it ain't fun, and sailing is supposed to be fun. Later in the evening would do it just fine. If I had lights on the boat I might even consider a night venture. Anyway, I'm getting the Jones here and just wanted to see the sail against the sky and feel the tiller. And I'm going to do a once over on the boat just in case I get a NASCAR start and get to go watch the sunset somewhere.
I am also going through wind withdrawal here. Hot and humid with spotty winds and afternoon thunderstorms. We just had a frog chocker with flash flood warnings here at the house but aren't in a flood zone. Saturdays we show up to race and often go out with more hope than good sense, shifty lake winds and patchy pressure on the water. We too often find ourselves bobbing and baking. Will be there again this Saturday and as they say hope springs eternal.
Riley and Doug, My heart pumps purple peanut butter for YOU, Dudes!! >:(
Trying my best to feel sorry for ya and all, but I can't quite make it!! :P

You and me both, Man.
Been on a sailboat last November,

And May; that's it.

And only got to steer ONCE!! :'(
And much like a tricky dance step that somehow, just keeps getting by you, my boat construction tasks seem to be accumulating, instead of declining!! :'(
18 months of laboring just to have the
possibility of going sailing and you guys are kvetching (sorry! south Florida term!) about the heat. >:(
BTW, my boat (if I ever get it done!) :P WILL have lights on it, as befitting the micro-cruiser I intend it to become.
But right now, the only sail I currently own, is still sitting in a box. :-X
And this is a challenge for the entirety of the whole TSBB sail-verse:
GET OUT THERE, SAIL AND GET PICS!! :o
Some of your land-locked brethren NEED a sailing fix, even a vicarious one!! :P
SCAMP Progress is slowing down, commensurate with the heat and the rainy weather.
Really been missing the feel of the wind across the port quarter, and the tiller not quite tugging, to keep my attention. :(
Throw a man a bone, guys.

I havent seen the Orion or Seidelmann in over months and the Compac sits at the dock, but I cant get to it. Tore my calf muscle back in May and I'm still on crutches.
I am hoping to get a Sunfish out this weekend in between working on the new dinghy and ongoing work to the mother ship.

That sounds rough! Heal up and don't do something foolish. I guess if you have to be out of commission be thankful it's not the spring or fall. Here's to getting back out there.

Purple Peanut Butter that could be a song title sort of like Purple People Eater. Although I haven't seen many purple people, I have seen a Yellow Polkadot Bikini. Those old silly summer songs tend to stick in one's head. I am sure this info dates me.
Almost went last night - just to get out. Full moon, wife away, temps cooled following afternoon t-storms. Just didn't do it. Cut the grass instead. UGH!
Considering that I would have been MISTER Mud yesterday if I had listened to the Sirens, I'll got out on a limb and say....maybe you'll get a tale soon enuf! Just about the time the longing had been beat back, we got grandchildren unexpectedly. Yeah, that would have gone over well! Those little terrorists were in fine form! All jokes aside, that's the best tactic I can develop to get some dacron up. Yesterday was a bust. Maybe today when the heathens are heading back to Mom and Pop.

The Sunfish is on the dolly, the dolly is on the trailer, the trailer is on the tow vehicle.
Just need a checklist and confirm as I load the rest of the kit (spars, sail, lines, blades, personal effects, etc.)
I rarely take a photo on race day, but tomorrow I might try to snap a shot or two. They won't be during the racing unless it's early in the start sequence. Looking forward to being back on the water hoping the wind shows up! Our sails are old and our skillset slowly improving, so we consider it a win when we end up near the top tier.

Veni, vidi, velai...
I chose a landing that was rustic but basically a reach going and coming and had a bit of calm water before the fetch kicked in. The dedicated non-motorized landing would have been more difficult to launch as it would be blowing hard onshore. It was the first sail of the year so extra rigging time including 35 or so knots for the sail ties, outhauls, and stopper knots. The new rudder and tiller worked well and I don't think I broke anything this time...so that is something different! ;D

Well Bill and I got to the club early and prepped the boat for a day of racing. We were the first on the dock and the last to take out. His Flying Scot was just a Floating Scot today as the winds had other plans, but the BS under the patio fans was fun as always. Maybe the winds will be more cooperative on our next race day.

Currently at 5am, the wind is 4kts from the North. That means that unless we get a rain to cool things off, it is going to be EXACTLY like it was yesterday. H-O-T. I didn't even make an attempt yesterday or the day before or ....you get the picture. Besides, the heat advisory in effect told me to stay in A/C and I complied. Of my own decision, mind you. Too many days spent in a rubber suit may have some bearing on that decision and I gloried at how NICE the air felt inside.
I tried to attach a pic and it seems with the last update, the $#^*@&$^^)#@$* photo program took away my ability to do just that. Now I gotta find a photo program. Why can't they just leave things ALONE? At any rate the scene was the same, a thunderstorm on the water at dawn, with all the colors of the rising sun reflected in the steamy atmosphere. So far, an excursion is unlikely and I do commend those in cooler climes their efforts.
