Title: Not yet
Post by: Riley Smith on Aug 29, 2025, 08:18 AM
I had planned a morning dash all this week and it didn't happen. First one thing and then another came up and finally lethargy had a hand in the mix itself. The weather is trying to cool off and believe me, one or two degrees make a definite difference. And breathing air that isn't soup is a very fine thing! Along with a shorter daylight, the time just keeps slipping away and no planned expedition can get off the ground it seems. I did manage a fishing trip and a thousand errands!

I'm blessed with a boat that requires a LOT of upkeep but one thing it DOES possess is the ability to mount an expedition with very little planning. A 3 hour trip is very doable compared to rigging time and effort. There are NO STAYS and all the bits and pieces are carried internally, along with all sorts of expedition paraphernalia, itself stored in the boat. The upkeep is mostly cosmetic, although there is an occasional wood part to deal with. (Cosmetic means paint for those that don't have a wood boat). All that is required to cast off is a captain and maybe an ice chest. And a window.

I had postponed all week but felt that this morning was it. Yes, grandchildren will make you do that. Nope, not today. Rain imminent, and so it goes, but one thing for certain. I'm loving it not being 95F. The hummingbirds have arrived and the migration is picking up I hear. Yes, the BEST season has begun!!!

Some beautiful weather here as of late. With the full moon coming (I like full moons), I'd like to get out for an overnighter. Working hard to get the daggerboard done. I glassed it but decided to put a "foot" on it, meaning an extra layer of glass on the bottom of the board. That adds a couple days. Should be ready for paint tomorrow - oil based porch and floor enamel - 2 coats. That will take a couple days. Ummmmm? Might not make it this week.

Oh, did I mention the "honey-do" list is growing?

I'm sidelined by kiddies or else I'd have been in the cool air in the mornings already. The motor was SUPPOSED to get me down the river to the old house, under the RR bridge, and to a bayou where I can dock for several days when the weather turned off like this. I love this time of year and a little later on too when it actually cools off. Oh well, make the best of things and I've been doing that for a very long time.
