Title: looking for replacement mast - west wight potter 15
Post by: PMcK on Sep 02, 2025, 03:03 PM
Oy. Dismasted on Puget Sound - lost a pin holding the port shroud and the whole thing came down, tearing up the base of the mast (not the plate on the cabin roof, thankfully). Anybody have a lead on a new mast? The boat is probably 1998 or so - mast has a foot bolted to a platet hat pins in with two pins into a base on the cabin roof. Thanks.

PMcK, Some pics would help.

1) Was it just the mast foot plate that broke or was there also damage to the mast?

As far as a new mast, according to most literature available on-line,  your mast extrusion is a Dwyer DM-1
Here's a link:
https://dwyermast.com/extrusion-dm-1/

Check the dimensions on the link and compare them to your own mast measurements.

Here is a link to a mast foot:

And a link to a mast step with tenon:

Again, pics of what you have would help in assisting you.

Failing actual parts replacement, how much damage occurred?
For example:
2) Would it be possible to cut an inch or two off the base of the mast and shorten your stays, by a commensurate amount?

3) Is this something you would be comfortable with doing?

We've ALL been there!!  :'(
