Title: Fuel tank replacement
Post by: gesoriano on Oct 13, 2025, 01:25 PM
Hi folks,

My 1990 Precision 23 is in need of a fuel tank replacement.  Currently, I have a 3 gallon container and would like a larger capacity (6 gal.).
Scepter makes a 6 gal. that may work.  It's dimensions are 19.3"L × 12.2" W × 10.2"H.  The length and width don't seem to present a problem but, the height could be an issue.  I've done measurements and it'll be close with the height.  Does anyone have experience with 6 gal. Scepter tanks?

Thanks,

Gene

Gene, I tried a 6-gal tank in my RS22, and it was indeed too tall for the fuel locker. I don't think it was a Sceptre tank though. Basically a 3-gal twice as high. It would have fit if the fill and hose connector weren't on top, but I think that's a necessary thing?

+1 on gas tank fit issues, Gene. In my P165 I like to fit the gas can I carry under the flap that goes down from the transom to basically, I believe cover up the gas can and other things that you want to put under it. This is just a portable gas can that doesn't connect to the engine while underway. Trouble is, I can't really find one that is short enough that the flap will go ALL THE WAY DOWN on top of. Does anyone here know of a short gas can that fits this space? I've done a few searches on Amazon, but I can't find one. Thanks!
