Title: How low will it go?
Post by: Doug SC on Dec 15, 2025, 10:00 AM
So, today's low was projected to be 22F at 8:00 it was 16F in central SC. Dripped the outside faucets and ran the central heat which we don't often do to save money. We use small space heaters and bundle up most of the winter. Now I know you folks up north deal with this kind of cold all winter, but we don't. We rarely go below 20F. I know it isn't astronomical winter yet, but in my book, winter has arrived! brrrrrr!!! :o

Home is eastern NC. Not far from the outer banks. Apparently the low last night was 18 degrees. Brrr, except we're visiting the kids in northern IL and it's 11 degrees with the wind chill making it feel like -11. Still better than yesterday's 1 degree.

Not quite that cold on the Gulf Coast at 28F but the wind had a knife and would cut you!

Single digits here . I  no sooner got an industrial size air compressor moved from one shop to another for a customer ,when he called to say his furnace went out !
Back I went for another round of loving where you live !

I somehow got a reprieve to finish moving my trailer parts yesterday while it was 35 and windy, which was comfortable compared to the 12 and windy it was this morning here in Lynchburg VA. Winter is here....

I agree Travis! The wind blew a gale out of the North all day. I didn't get to see the water on the beach but I'm sure there isn't any. There is a big frost this morning and the Bleeding Heart flowers I was admiring the other day are officially history. Pic is the water in front of the Labrot House when the north wind has blown it all away. Everything dry you see in the picture is normally covered by 1-3 ft of water. Luckily it doesn't stay long here.

Several years ago, when we had a ski house in Vermont, we woke up to a beautiful sunny morning ready to ski. My Father-in-Law looked at the outside thermometer and announced " Its 22 degrees perfect!. Then after a long pause he said "I mean negative 22 degrees!" We stayed home, had hot chocolate, spiced tea, and played board games. Have not seen temperatures that cold in a long time.
