Title: "Start me up ....."
Post by: Brian N. on Apr 28, 2026, 11:46 AM
A line from the Rolling Stones but as applied to my Honda 2HP outboard motor. Usually I start it a couple of times during mild winter days, but this winter was very cold and no milder days where I could get out to the shed. Anyway I remembered this morning that it had not been started since the fall, so I added fresh gas and gave it a pull. Started on the second try. The little engine has been super reliable and very easy to maintain. The engine is 2008. I've changed the oil every season and the lower unit oil every 2-3 years along with the spark plug. I truly believe that switching to the engineered fuel has made a difference. Smoother running engines (lawn mower, snow blower and outboard) and very easy starts. Also long term storage is not a problem.

I think The Rolling Stones had something else in mind Brian, but yes, the H2 is a wonderful little outboard. My 2005 model has never let me down, not once, despite only being used a few times a year. Just changed the engine and gear oil a couple of weeks ago, and it's probably time for a new plug too - thanks for that reminder. And you couldn't be more correct in that ethanol fuel is the #1 enemy of small engines of all types.

Nice to have a motor you can trust.

About a year and 1/2 ago, I bought a used Nissan 3.5 for a planned trip on the Mississippi that never happened. Haven't started it since. Probably should. :)

Sorry I haven't made a happy hour recently but I plan to be back eventually - though I'm not quite sure about the next one.

Busy Spring so I'm behind with boat prep and won't make the May 1st opening day of the buoy field. Probably more like May 15th.

Good to hear from you Tom. Yeah, our lives get very busy at times, but its nice to sit and gab about sailing when we can. I meet some archery friends about twice a week at a local archery range. The owner of the range calls us the "grey-beard" club. We probably spend more time talking than actually shooting arrows. Similar to my sailing, I read magazines, yack about sailing to anyone who will listen, go to West Marine, more than I actually sail!

No worries Tom, happy hour's not going anywhere! However, I had my doubts the other day when I was on the boat at Chula Vista, and for the life of me I couldn't get the meeting started on my iPad. Switched to the laptop and it finally worked. Did it from there last year no problem, so not sure what the issue was, other than Zoom is constantly changing the host controls interface which makes things difficult.

Anyhoo, good luck with the boat prep, and hope to see ya soon!
