Title: Splashed "Seas the Day"!
Post by: Ed on Aug 20, 2026, 07:48 AM
Finally got the boat launched, and it only took 16 days.  After waiting patiently, yea right, for the bottom paint, hardware for the boat, doing the Poliglow procedure on the hull, and having the boat ramp 200 yards away from the upper parking lot closed, we launched.  We had spent a day getting used to the mast raising system on the Hunter 240 (metal baby stays, a couple of new turnbuckles to replace missing/bent ones, and a new gin pole - the PO was a power boater that didn't know anything about trailer sailers or water ballast).  We went to a ramp about a mile away with a couple of 130 degree turns, but we made it.  Rigged triple dock lines so Becky could be on the Courtesy Dock (GA sucks for launching without using a motor).  I knew it was going to be close but the 12 foot hitch extension looked like a bear to muscle around, so I figured I could get the aft end floating a little and brake launch.  Worked like a charm, except my tailpipes were blowing water with about a 1/2 inch under water.  Motored over to our slip, and on the way discovered the throttle keeper screw was stripped to I was leaning way over to give it throttle while sawing the tiller back and forth.  Had no problems slipping her, set up spring lines to the cleats I had installed previously, did the shuffle back to the boat ramp with Becky's car, and headed for home with the trailer behind me.  I will be looking on FB Marketplace for a tandem axle trailer I can set up for the boat, long before the Fl120 this year.  Hope to see you there Charles.
