Title: Nylon screws for DIY mastgate?
Post by: tjspiel on Jul 10, 2023, 09:09 PM
I think this discussion happened before the old forum shutdown. Didn't a couple of you use some nylon screws that you got from McMaster to fasten the gate to the mast?

Do you remember what size?

Tom, I did with the external gate on the DS. They were 1/4-20 nylon thumb screws from McMaster-Carr.

I used a #10 24 thread, but don't have any reason to believe that this is the "right" size.

Don't remember why I chose 1/4-20, probably because I already had the tap, but the finer thread size is probably the better choice anyway, given the relatively thin mast wall.

"probably because I already had the tap"

That's the same reason why I chose the #10-24.
