Title: Post your Q's, Requests, Ideas, etc here!
Post by: CapnK on Jan 30, 2023, 11:24 AM
This sub forum is for back and forth about the forum software itself, to keep that kind of discussion apart from the IMPORTANT boat talk! :)

Just made my first post and included a photo. It shows up in the body of the post as well as an attachment. Is this correct? Or is there a way to just do one or the other?

I'll do it here as well and see what happens.

Edit: Ok. Played around with it a bit. It seems if you don't "insert", it just shows up as an attachment; but if you insert, you get both.

Please add a Forwarding link to the forum on the home page https://creek2sea.com/index.html

This is great!

I haven't figured out how to do a like. Although most every post I see on here I like. I usually do a thumbs up.

This is great!

In a few days, maybe this coming week, the Trailer Sailor board will be back on the domain "trailersailor.com". This is just a temp location/address used while making sure everything works. When the time comes to make this permanent, there will be proper links and all that. :)

How does one access Personal Messages from the main page?

Title: Attachment limits
Post by: Charles Brennan on Apr 05, 2023, 07:38 PM
Kurt, I would like to make a pitch for increasing the number of attachments in a post.
Doug, (SC) had to do a two part post (Manatee Menace and paddling Mosquito Lagoon) and I had to do a two part post on my keel bolt waterproofing. (Urchin's keel bolt travails.)
I noticed that we originally had a 4 pic limit that was increased to a 10 pic limit, so I am hoping that it is a simple configuration value change in the TSBB software you are using.
If that is so, I would like to see the maximum pic limit increased to 40, while still keeping the 4MB total file size limit.

That value was derived from looking at past boat show reports, BEER Cruise reports and  FL 120 report.  All those photo-essays averaged 40 pics and all stayed within 4MB.  This is because I always shrink the pics before posting, for two reasons:
1) Way back when, when so many people were still on dial-up, hi-res pics took forever to load up.
2) Nowadays, with people accessing the TSBB site from cell phones (sometimes in far flung and less than optimal locations) again, it would take an inordinate amount of time to download the post.  Most of my pics are in the 75kB to 100kB range.
The most I ever did was 70 pics, and that particular post was a little tedious and probably should have been subdivided in two parts.

BEER Cruises and FL 120 reports are typically Day 1, Day 2, etc. with around 40 pics (or less) per day/post.

I particularly like the new Tales and Trip Reports area and think it would be an ideal location for BEER Cruise/FL 120 reports.

What do you think?

I too like the Tales and Trip Reports category. If I recall 10 photos was the site limit for attached photos, but if it could be increased, I am all for it. I do appreciate what has been done to keep the site running. Thanks!

Good call, CB & Doug. How about: up to 50 pics/8MB per post?  :)

For anyone looking, here's a list of "10 easy photo resizers for Windows (https://www.batchphoto.com/blog/top-10-apps-for-resizing-photos-on-windows/)", including doing "batches", which is the term for resizing multiple images at once. That's great for those of us who prefer to do it 'quick n easy' (read: lazy ;) ).
(A similarly worded search for 'Mac, 'droid, etc should net you some alternatives for those platforms.)

Allowed attachments are: doc,gif,jpg,mpg,pdf,png,txt,zip

Hope everyone is having a great day!

PS - Do y'all see a "Like" thingy now?

Did not realize that the default was "Off" for everyone but Admin, so I toggled it just now...

OK, thanks Tim, I see now it is working. :D

If you click on the "Person Liked this" notification, it tells you who liked it - see screengrab below.

PPS - Per the Q of Capt Kidd (https://trailersailor.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=17) up above, if Attachments are embedded into the body of a post (to do this you choose "Insert" button after Uploading them), then there shouldn't be a second set of thumbnails below, after the post.

I think that's what I told it to do... :-\

Edit: Seems to be working properly.

Kurt, the increased pic count and file size would be GREAT!  :)
Happen to be a Big Fan of Fotosizer.

Thanks for all you do here,

Title: A request for pics limit increase.
Post by: Charles Brennan on Nov 08, 2023, 10:04 AM
CapnK, We had the ability to post 40 pics or so, right up until the last site modification that increased the number of server files/storage.  After that modification, there was an 8 pic limit.  On my CDCR report that meant chopping the report up into 6 parts and the over all effect was tedious.

I am intending to cover the Cedar Key Small Boat Meet this weekend and expect to come back with significant amounts of Boat Porn.  Could we get the pic limit back to its previous capacity.

Thanks,
Charles Brennan

I don't see anywhere else to post questions about the software. So here's mine: I have never had a problem inserting graphics before, but now when I select "Insert Image," I don't get the old "Upload from Computer" option, only a place to insert a URL. Do we now have to maintain our own Internet archives in order to share images on the TSF?

Talbot, Nope.
One clicks on the sentence that says: "Click or drag files here and attach them." at the bottom of the text edit box.
Then one selects the image to add.
The image then uploads to the bottom of the page and has two symbols: an up arrow with a bar over it and an "X"
Clicking on the "X" will delete the image after giving a warning prompt: (Do you really want to do this?)
Clicking on the blue up arrow with a bar will open a drop down menu that allows you to set the pixel height and width (don't recommend it; get it backwards and you end up with fun-house mirror-type images) and also has an"Insert" button.
Click on that "insert" button and the software automatically inserts the HTML code that allows your pic to be integrated in your text, like this:
20240602_171944 1024X768.jpg
Don't click on the insert button and your upload will only be a link at the bottom of the post.

If you posted stuff with 30 or 40 pics in it, like I do,  :-[  this would be all automatic to you.
Before a recent Bulletin Board software upgrade, you used to get the insert button as soon as the image uploaded.
And apparently, it's not as intuitive to users, as before the upgrade.

(Cue Star Trek's Doctor McCoy: ) "What did they do to Sick Bay?  ???  I know Engineers!  >:(  They LOVE to change things!"  >:(

Hope this helps,
Charles Brennan
