Title: Replacing a chain plate
Post by: rocu on May 10, 2024, 01:03 PM
Hi. I'm the new owner of a 2003 WWP19. I'm replacing the bow chain plate. Can someone please tell me what I need to torque the bolts to?

Thanks!

No idea. But Fastenal website has data on maximum torque for various metal bolts including 316 stainless.
Excessive torque just pre-stresses bolts to shear.

What size are the bolts?  1/4-20 would call for about 5 ft-lbs.

Here is the link for the fastenal chart noelH mentioned

Nylon lock nuts (nyloc) are generally a good idea for any important fasteners.  Especially because fiberglass can creep a little under compression, so joint preload (the end goal of torque) can reduce over time.

Thanks for the replies. Turns out it didn't need to be replaced, just rebedded.

I don't understand ... you were asking about how tight to snug the fasteners and then write you only needed to rebed the fitting and no need to tighten the fasteners?

Well, both. I thought that I needed to replace the plate but once I got it out and cleaned it it was fine. I am replacing the fasteners though.
