Title: Replacing Edson Rubber boot for Transom Hung Rudder
Post by: doug 26RK on Jun 30, 2024, 05:28 PM
Last year I patched the boot. That is not going to work again. Any tricks, tips or things to avoid beyond lots of Photos before starting and a net to catch any bolts that get dropped during the process (boat is on the lift). I know years ago there was discussion on replacing this boot on the Seaward site. However, this system was used on other trailer sailors thought I'd get a broader group for advice here.

Thanks in advance.

Could you post a coupla pics of what you're facing?  That would help.

I'm not sure I understand the problem and had to do some searching to understand what you were taking about that wasn't a Size 11. That's where most of the searches lead me.
It looks like 3 bolts to remove it and that's it. True?
I can see if you are talking about bolts and nuts someone or something needs to be in the boat near the transom to catch nuts coming off after holding them, then to reverse that when the bolts come through for the new boot.

I read the single review at Edson from 2 years ago that said it was great but only lasted 20 months.
