Charles has long ago convinced me ,that the only thing an outboard ever does reliably is fail .
I've been using an 8 horse Johnson 25" 2 stroke for perhaps the last 5 years . Eventually it starts after sitting a week or so . At home ,in a barrel it starts on the first pull .. Strange how that doesn't happen once it's on the back of the boat ,out on lake Michigan .
Last weekend the emergency safety switch fell out and the only way to stop the engine is to unplug the gas line . Either the switch is not available or it is $120.00 !
Perusing the local classifieds tonight I found a 2004 Yamaha 8 horse 4 stroke with electric start and electric trim and remote controls for $2200. This just might be the last time I have to spend and money on our sailboat .. ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
The seller is just a few miles from here and agreed to meet at four tomorrow ..
