Not sure what it is like in CA. Up here even a "justified" shooting of another human can get you into trouble. Even shooting someone on your own property who you feel threatened by. A resort owner shot a thief. No criminal charges. He shot real low just wound and disable the person who had a large knife in his hand. Unfortunately he hit the popliteal artery and the person bleed out fast. Ended up losing in a civil court case. $$$$s in the out of court settlement. Rumors are they ended up needing to sell off their resort. It was the only time I've been summoned to serve on a jury.
