The Mississippi Coast is the fulcrum of the weather universe I think. We've had a severe drought going on until a now-defunct weather system in the Gulf edged ashore and brought some badly needed rain. Perfect in its delivery as showers and not a downpour. It also brought that Gulf soup ashore and the air is thick outside below the full moon. The humidity went up to the stratosphere and on a quick run to town early this morning, the windshield of the car was constantly weeping in the a/c as the humidity condensed. Yep, soup.

I thought I'd include this picture of the Gulf and the action taking place about 800 miles south, where something is messing about the Yucatan peninsula. That isn't what I was focusing on, but instead. the total area affected by that on-going weather. If you notice, the actual area under it's influence extends to the MIDDLE of the Gulf where the blue is, and is surrounded by a russet haze which is the humidity I'm breathing, left over from the PREVIOUS bunch of clouds off the mouth of the Mississippi River. I'm happy for the rain but hate the fog of humidity. And love looking at the weather in different wavelengths.

I've been aching to fish a couple of spots in the boat but so far things have conspired against me. Today was in the high percentages but one look at the data buoy shot that down. No wind. Glassy water. Maybe that means I need to be fishing with the top-water bait off the pier instead. And so a look at the tide chart tells me it is dead low. Won't be catching THIS morning. Oh well, maybe this afternoon if it doesn't get too hot. The tide will be rising and maybe there will be some wind. If I can only refrain from tilting windmills...

Nope,... rain. Much needed but harder. Tomorrow looks better and gets better from there. So the weasels say. With this blanket of humidity, it feels like tropical storm weather.

I had a leisurely outing, more motoring than anything. I launched under I-10 because it was close, although I had considered heading to Deer Island in Biloxi. Initially I headed downriver but that was south and the wind was out of the NE. It got hot VERY quick and I did a 180 to cool off, then decided to head upriver. Not enough wind to overcome the current, so I did a few tacks to prove THAT to me and then fired up the Honda and kept her into the wind and finally cooled off a little. I investigated a nice little sandy spot near a couple of cypress trees and considered a swim, but I didn't bring a towel. I started to anyway but figured I'd get the truck seat wet, so I didn't. It would have felt wonderful, but I was also wary of crocodilians too. I've seen a few monsters in that very spot.
The river here is a maze and full of little bayous and grass shrouded water ways. There are a few cypress trees this far down and all manner of wildlife out in that jungle. The mullet were way up here and even some terns. I saw a huge alligator gar splash.( Maybe 8'). I had planned on taking pics if I couldn't sail, and that didn't work out either. The battery was dead on the camera. O shoot. So I sailed back downriver a ways and then stowed the rig and headed to the ramp with the Honda. It felt absolutely wonderful when I got in the shade of the bridge.
And the truck A/C was full blast all the way back to the house. Yeah, it's STILL hot, but it was fun. I would have fished some if it had been 5 degrees cooler. With the river so low, salt water has intruded way up here, so no telling what you'll get on a fishing line. The temps are supposed to go down this weekend. I'm more than ready.

'Fessing up.
I got too hot. That fine cup of espresso I had didn't help matters. Now, I KNOW hot and how far I can go. You don't work as a welder and not know heat, but I'm wondering if some of the new meds are messing with my system. I came close to the ragged edge today and felt it was hit or miss after I got back home. It wasn't a pleasant feeling and I even considered heading to the ER, but I just cooled and drank PLENTY of liquid and rested. Feel much better now.
SO....it's gonna have to be cooler before I can manage that again. I'm gonna look again at my meds to see if there is a temperature warning on any of them, but I do read that stuff and don't remember any. The espresso on top of my normal Columbian didn't help. That stuff was POTENT!!! It was a very pretty day but I didn't see ANYONE sitting and fishing. The sun was just too hot and those people I did see were keeping the breeze moving with the motor. Me included. At least the humidity is down!
