Pintle spacer?

Is there usually a bushing/spacer on the top pintle in between the retaining clip and the gudgeon? Something that would, for example, stop the lower pintle from popping out and causing the top gudgeon to get bent all out of shape and maybe risking losing the rudder as you're trying to get it back in? Asking for a friend.
