Today I realized exactly what it means to be retired.

I was out with a friend today who would like to be a pirate but alas has to work for a living. Anyway, on the way home, I stopped by the mailbox. It's about a 1/2 from the house but add in 200 feet down and back up and it's a hike. And I don't hike again at this time.

Well, the mailbox was empty and I actually got the truck into second gear before I realized that today is Sunday and USPS does not deliver on Sunday.  8)

:) Been there, done that, more times than I care to admit.

My wife and I went to the Saturday nite movie on Friday night, ate at the dining room adjacent, surprised at the small crowd........

My paper person may be a retiree, I have a 6 day paper, some
Sundays they deliver another brand of paper which has a
Sunday edition.

One of the dining rooms has a barbeque menu on summer Saturday noon's, we have gone on Friday several times.

We did not have this problem until we moved into a retirement community.

Most weekends, we went to the American Legion for Friday and Saturday supper, and Sunday brunch on the way to Church, and that seemed to keep us connected with the week.

Here, we go to brunch after Church, here at "Home".

Wayne , we live in a very little town . Heck we only have just the one tavern . Our town hall is an old church that went out of business . How often doesthat happen ? The post office delivers herr on sundays . This past weekend Bobbie and I spent at home fixing and finishing long overdue projects . About noon we looked at each other and asked . "So ,is this what retiement is going to be like ?" . Less than a year ...

Not having to be somewhere on a scheduled basis. I like. But the occasional clueless to what day it is can result. Not that I really care. Activities and daily plan has become more weather determined. Fresh snow and not sub-zero. Go snowboarding. Wind and no storms. Go sailing or windsurfing. No wind or snow. Go hiking. Squeeze in the things that need to be done between leisure time. Benefit of retirement. More flexibility and more go with the flow.

Losing track of what day of the week it is was common. Now I just forget what month and/or year it is. Smart phone lock screen tells me only the day of the week and date. The world of debit/credit card and personal checks not accepted. I use the checks basically only at the local dairy. For whatever reason last week I thought it was 2025.

Side effects of old age and retirement?

Strangely, they do deliver here on Sunday. Even GPS gets all screwed up with what is really here, so I had to direct a driver for medical gear that stopped and asked me when the bus dropped off the kids awhile ago. I didn't recognize the address but did the name. It was Mr. Jarrell, that lives three houses down. !00 yr old war veteran.

Here, too. I got a message from Amazon saying the package was dropped off on our front porch. I called them up and explained that my place doesn't have a porch front or back and I would like my package TODAY. And about two hours later, the package arrived.

Another windless and unseasonably warm(~+29C) day. So I'm online avoiding the heat of the day. Sept initially looked so good. Usually more consistent winds than August (the worst month for wind). Now 8 days in a row of calm to F1 breeze and hot for us. Surface water temperature of L. Superior is supposedly running ~2C warmer than normal. That difference can mean the formation of ice or no ice on L. Superior. No to minimal ice is getting to become too common. Seems to also result in less wind and less number of windy days.  Retired now. More opportunity to sail and windsurf? Not happening.

USPS package delivery has become a "necessity" living in rural America. All the little common things. Tootbrush, toothpaste, soaps... Seems like most my Amazon deliveries over the past year end up last mile delivery by the USPS. Even UPS uses USPS which I find interesting.  One summer early morning at the USPS office in Bayfield the UPS driver just unloaded a truckload of packages. Piled to overflow in one of the corners of the sorting area. UPS and USPS delivery service has been good. FedEx, "operational delayed" is the norm. Could live without Saturday USPS service. That would give me two days per week to give me a hint it is neither M,T,W,Th, or F. Or a Holiday.

While I may have a problem with the date, I always know the day. It's on the top of my pill box.

While I wouldn't mind losing track of time in my retirement, I find it difficult to do.  I'm blessed or cursed with too many "signals".  I look out the kitchen window and see the dumpsters out at my neighbors houses, must be either Wed. or Sunday night because pickup is the next day.  If the yellow top dumpster is out, it must be Tues. night that is for the recycle which goes out every other Wed. If I see Jack, the kid next store standing out by the street, it can't be a weekend day he is waiting for the school bus. I'm an Usher at church and my wife will never let me forget when I'm scheduled. The medical providers in our community have gotten wise and will remind you of your appointments by text, voice message, and email to make sure you (and your money) are there promptly on the right day. Although I mostly only walk these days, I still set up the water station for the Tupelo Running Club Saturday group run, so the FB page reminds me of the event every week.

We don't have Sunday mail delivery other than Amazon packages, but I often find mail in the box on Sunday.  It is because I forgot to check it on Saturday, or Friday, or Thursday...........

I'm not retired and I still forget what day of the week it is! LOL

I wake up and say, "now what day is it?"

We are on year 8+ of retirement.  It is getting easier to say, "Aw, the hell with it", and just do what we want.  The only limiting factor is the ever increasing demands regarding the grandkids. I am busy all day long with the grands, property, dogs, cats, goats, and chickens as well as all the wild things: turkeys, deer, bear, coyote, etc. that wander through.  Then all the grands appointments, classes, meet ups, etc.  We earn every sailing weekend we can get!

Retired since 2019. Usually don't lose track of time or day simply because I'm fairly busy. I also read the daily paper with my morning coffee, to keep up with what is happening and developments. Doing the bills, household chores, yard work, grocery shopping are mundane tasks, but I plan my days so that every day is a bit different. Hobbies vary day-by-day (including sailing). Also, I stay away from daytime TV: Same garbage, different network and it will put your brain into a coma.

I'm seeing USPS on Sundays from time to time. Guessing they're delivering packages.

I'm officially retired again as of 9/17. I'm trying to stay retired this time. I haven't worked in several months and we haven't starved to death, so maybe it'll be fine  ;D  Sonya is looking at time share bookings...Me? I just want a nap.
