Winter has felt like winter this year. We are getting a wet snow and some sleet; This is something that happens maybe once or twice a year or not at all. I saw the birds scratching under the table where I spread bird seed. so went out and spread some more. Now that I have installed an electric system and made a tent for the Scamp, I want to spend a night or two with it on the water. Not tonight though.

It is snowing in the Cannon Valley of MN today too.
;D

Looking forward to hear of your early season adventures once the weather gets good for you.
Big dreams, small boats...

Got about 3 inches here in Chattanooga. Don't see it often here.

Just a threat of a light dusting here in eastern North Carolina and everything is shutting down.  ::)

Send the snow back where belongs.  Another dismal snow year up here.  50cm/20" total snowfall at the house, but only enough left to cover the ground.  Bare ground at Lake level. Way below normal even for the new "normal".  Seasonal total new normal at this elevation is ~150".  ~120" at Lake level in town. The major oscillation in the jet stream?  Seem to be either 10F above or below normal daytime highs. Down to ~1ft base at the ski hill.  Without snowmaking there would be no season. The drought continues. Spring forest fire season will begin early if things don't change.

Township use to have to plow if more than 6"/15cm falls or accumulates over a period of time.  Then a couple years ago the level was raised to 20cm/8'.  Nothing shuts down up here until we reach double digit or blizzard wind conditions. Just a normal winter nuisance when we get a foot drop.  Not like the good old days of multiple Lake Effect dumps of 2-4 feet.  5ft Loftness snowblower is still on the pallet.  It's been parked since the Spring of '23.

There were 3 boats in the Bay, but no wind.  Ice Boats. The Bay is now ice covered with zero snow.

So far we have managed to stay mostly above freezing. That didn't mean it wasn't cold; that punishing cold, and windy. I almost froze my fingers off bass fishing.

Snow is mostly melted this morning. We lucked out and only had a minor amount of freezing rain so no power outages. Anyway, I think hurricane Hellene brought down most of the limbs and trees that could have been a problem in an ice storm.

I personally think that a damp cold just above freezing is more uncomfortable than when the thermometer drops below freezing and dries out the air.

About four inches in the north part of the "Sip", on Friday, lot's of black ice on the roads this morning, but the melt has started.  But here we have an excuse for sitting in front of the fire and reading all day.

Agree on  humidity being the major factor in how cold you feel, rather than temperature.  I go to Colorado every year for a week of skiing and am never cold despite temps often being right at zero in the morning.  In Mississippi, 40F is often bone chilling.

Previously in central Texas, it was 33 degrees and raining. I don't know how it felt because I stayed inside all day.  ;)

I stayed cold all day long today although I stayed inside and snuggled with my blankie  ;D  My wife said last night it was foggy and somewhere around 35 degrees. Now THAT is a viscous cold!

Finally.  Powder day yesterday. Half-dozen runs at the local ski area before the area was shredded. ~20 years ago took my ?th trip out to Steamboat, but for the first time with a snowboard.  Late January into early February trip. 7 consecutive days of powder.  Hooked on riding a snowboard. Sold the alpine gear at next season's ski/snowboard swap/sale. Couldn't snowboard last season due to my imbalance issue. Season before. Zero powder days. Not deep yesterday at ~15-20cm. But considering zero powder days since??? Happy.

Today, the cold front that delivered the Lake Effect powder has arrived. Sunny, but real cold at -15C/+5F. Windchill is bitter bitting cold. 10 day forecast.  Back to snow drought conditions and swinging from too warm to too cold.
