As we say good-bye to Starlight, once piece at a time, we are considering purchasing a Laguna 24 (aka Balboa 24). Anyone have any experience with that boat?

I'm interested to see that three of the boats we have considered for replacing the P21: Laguna, Santana, Lancer. were designed by W. Shad Turner. Another, the San Juan 24, was designed by Bruce Kirby.

No personal experience with those boats but I know of a couple of people that have had smaller Balboas and were happy with them. Seemed like nice boats. They were 20s or 22s. Can't remember which.

FWIW we passed on the Laguna in favor of a Ranger 23. This will sound silly, but the deciding factor was the headliner, which in the Laguna is fragile vinyl over poofy foam, that degrades with time. The Ranger has no liner. It's a serious boat. We are unlikely to ever use it to potential--hell, we don't even have a vehicle that can pull it to salt water--but maybe we will leave it to someone who will.

Good choice Talbot, there is a couple Ranger 23's at the club I belong to and they do very well in PHRF races. Appear to be very well built.
