Read the "Wide, Wide Sea" by Hampton Sides about the last voyage of Captain Cook this last year. It is an excellent book and a remarkable story. I learned a lot I didn't know about the time and the South Pacific as he headed north to look for the northwest passage from the Pacific side. Lord Sandwich was his backer for that voyage. I highly recommend the book if this type of thing interests you.
