The wind was humming and I actually wanted a sleeve this morning! Heck, put a reef in it and sail thought I, knowing the launching and retrieving was going to be unpleasant with the wind. It wasn't too bad though, and I got some tiller time in Krebs Lake. What a nice day but I declined to beat upriver which had been the initial plan, and settled for zig-zagging all over the tidal lake. The motor ran fine and there would probably not be a tale except for the conversation at the ramp with another hairy old fart.
The ramp is a local ramp and although public, it's out of the way in a neighborhood and not very many think of it. And besides, the parking lot and the ramp are at 90 deg to each other and the confines are pretty small.  Someone that has trouble backing up is in for it there. The OTHER hairy old fart had been fishing and we arrived up near the trailers together after I had pulled S R Cat out. There was only he and I out from this ramp. He'd caught three flounder but one was too small. Turns out his father and my father worked together. I'd heard his last name all my life when Pop would talk about the shenanigans in the Salt Mine.

So we enjoyed each other's company and he worked on his trailer and I worked on mine. I had failed to glue a joint on the PVC goal posts and it all came unwound, but I disconnected the light and saved all the parts. And found out my fender is too low and has to be drilled and remounted. And forgot the mast wedges while trying to unstep the mast. Just the usual you know, something broke (not bad) and I went sailing anyway. Fun in the sun, but it actually was, and we yakked while he tightened up HIS goal posts that had been racked a little.
The NEXT tool in the list is a battery powered impact. No, not a driver, a dedicated impact. We had it all kosher in about ten minutes and I even talked on the phone to his mother (91), who knew my Mom & Pop. I had emergency tools but he was equipped!!!
And so I made a new friend from old roots, got invited to church of course, and enjoyed a very beautiful morning. The Day of Longsleeves is coming and I wasn't even sweating until I finally pulled out with S R Cat in tow. Yeah, those old Bayou people. I know 'em. They good as gold.

There ya go! Sounds like a nice outing with a bonus!
"They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the deep." Psalm 107:23-24

A good day for sure.

Dale, it was the topping to the cake so to speak. Drawing attention isn't anything new with the catboat, especially in Motor Boat Heaven. She brings the most interesting people, like moths to a flame. And the conversations starts and no telling where it is going. This one was a good one and what's even better was associated with the family from years back. Subtractors will allege we're all related because we marry our first cousins, but that's one of the first actions that takes place here when two residents meet. How do I know you? Because, almost always, there is some sort of connection if you've lived here all your life and it is almost always exciting to figure it out. So I wasn't kidding when I said I knew 'em. I do!
