There comes that day in the summer when you know the heat is on the way out. Oh, it's not going to give up without a massive fight, but that day tells you the time will come. It happened yesterday, after a storm Friday evening that was much more notable to the east of my location. ( I saw the video). We got a rain and not much of one at that. Saturday after the storm was a whole different universe, and there was cool at dawn. And a breeze!!! It was very nice. Nice enough that I worked in the shop for an hour on my airplane.
I don't do shop work much in the summer, just like I don't sail much. The shop has a fan and that's about it, except for the doors you can roll up. It becomes like the suburbs of Hell in there on a summer day. I guess what really got my notice was the turtle come visit. A terrapin nosing about in the cool hours walked into the shop. They start looking for winter digs later in the year and may wander up. And then just after I relocated the guy, a hummingbird showed up. We haven't seen any in some weeks.
SO....lets see. Turtle. Hummingbird. A BREEZE! Humidity down enough that you don't think about wet blankets. Yep. I can see signs.Of course, that was yesterday. TODAY it is humid again and there are storms along the coast. Maybe we'll get a rain out of it. It humid as it ever gets and there is thunder to the south. No, it doesn't give up without a fight. But I know, almost as if Nature had tapped me on the shoulder and whispered in my ear.

There is hope!  Well, there with you; not so much here in the desert.  93º when I got up this morning at 6:00 am, 116º predicted for a high.  Dry heat?  No, this is "monsoon season," meaning higher humidity and less stable air.  July is "the hottest month" here... August is 1º lower on average.  I can't tell the difference.

Actually, I've gone into nocturnal mode and take a siesta during the worst of the UV during the daylight. So that being the case, I have what people that still work for a living might call an "unusual" schedule. And add to the fact that my wife is the original Night Owl, it makes for some interesting interactions with the world about us. One of them is catching a falling tide at daylight thirty with a slight north wind! Not quite yet, because I was sweating the LAST time I fished at dawn but soon. Soon. Another is perhaps storing the boat mast up. That worked nicely last year and I may do it again.

In north Sip we got the "teaser" today.  About a 15 degree drop low and high from the previous day and week.  Make no mistake it is just a "teaser" usually comes early August, gets ones hopes up for an early fall, then laughs as it goes back into 100+ heat indexes until late September.

Work in the shop? I usually can until about 2PM summer time.  However, my primary temperature control apparatus was two mature winged elm trees that provided serious shade. They up and died this summer. I have two ceiling fans and they help.  I've been asked a number of times why not a window AC unit, shop is small and insulated.  However, it is primarily a wood shop and my dust collection is primitive but even with the best available I would be changing return air filters about four times a day. So no AC, when it gets too hot I just quit.
