Catboat sighting on L. Superior

Yesterday's wind was this seasons "normal".  Wind direction and velocity was NOT what you heard on the NOAA Nearshore forecast or station readings. F1-3, N veering NE.  There was a long moment of F1 breeze when the wind transitioned from N to NE.
   
Something rare in this region of L.Superior.  A Catboat.  Actually rare to see anything but larger boats.  Looked like it launched from Washburn's Thompson's West End Park ramp.  The Washburn Marina where I launch from is ~0.5nm N of T's.  That's as close as we got.  Gaff rigged.  Might have been a Compac.  Hope was it would pull along side and venture out into the cleaner, stronger air offshore.

Looks like the Cat never ventured far from Washburn. Just checking out the shoreline N and S of Washburn.

The wind THIS year has predominantly from the west here, which is opposed to being SE & S normally. Good wind for sailing but bad for fishing too, and historically it almost never blows due west.
Shallow isn't a problem in a catboat so it opens up more water. And stronger prolly would call for a reef cause it tames everything down, so maybe they were in a groove where they were 🙂
