....why didn't one of you tell me?  Oh, maybe because I jumped to a conclusion and didn't ask.  My Suzuki 15 hp which I've been trying to get back online for a while blessed me with starting at the last episode of the saga.  However, the telltale indicated that it was not pumping water, and I assumed the impeller was faulty even though it had been fine when I put the boat up about a year earlier. Doing a little research I see that these things won't self prime in a water barrel unless you can get the water up to the level of the pump or use the muffs to force feed it. But wait a minute I used this same plastic barrel the last time, what is different?  Hmmm, seems like I remember putting a fixed mini jack plate on the transom to get the prop up where it should be so that the cav plate was within an inch of the keel. The jack plate raised everything about 1.5 inches and that was all it took for the pump to be too high of the water level to prime.  Put couple of 2 x 4s under the barrel, started it up and pump was just fine. Live and learn, at least I have a new impeller for when I actually do need to change it.

Have I mentioned recently how much I hate outboard motors.

I think it is actually the BARREL that causes all the problems. You see, the barrel is round and filled with conductive water, and the gravitational field of the earth is amplified in it due to the counterclockwise motion when the motor is in gear. That field heals anything in its aura, with the outboard being it's prime target.

That's my belief and I'm sticking to it!

So, S of the Equator the gravitational field of the earth will result in clockwise motion. Sounds like a motor for Kiwi and Aussies ;D .
