70 has been good for me.

Back from dinner and a movie. Only 45 minutes but that documentary on the Blue Angels was very inspirational! Best $10 and 3/4 hour I've spent in quite some time. It's been a good day.

Congratulations!!! And Happy Birthday!  I had to go to a new doctor today and was really happy. He looked at me and said, "Hmmm....you don't LOOK 70". ;D  ;D  ;D  Made MY day! All those years in high school being the youngest looking guy are paying off!!! And yes, one of the most awesome things I've ever seen was the  Blue Angles arcing overhead low level using S R Cat as a pivot point on last year's FL 120. The air was really still that day and man they were TIGHT. I could almost touch them it seemed.

The cinematography was fabulous. They really captured the experience. I could make out the shots taken over Pensacola, even spotted sailboat cove. We did not see them back in October. Were hopeful but no dice.

Always good to wake up to a "Happy Birthday". As per Star Trek "Live Long and Prosper". Count your blessings each day.

We generally attend a big airshow each year at Jones Beach (NY). Can't really avoid it as the jets fly directly over our house as they turn around for the flyover. Beyond impressive as the jets fly directly overhead, and then the roar and flames of the engine as they pass. Really makes you respect the skill of those pilots and their service to our country.

Well happy birthday! However, with the exception of Krusen you are all kids. ;) In twelve days I will turn 78, and I kinda have been feeling it.

With regard to the Blue Angels, this was my viewing spot when I saw them during the 2011 B.E.E.R.

We were hoping to see them practice when we were sailing in Pensacola last October. We saw some activity coming out of the NAS but no Angels.

I'm definitely feeling it at 69 and I'm sure I'll feel 78 if I live that long. The fellow I'm buying the Hunter 19 is 75. He also has a 27' sailboat that he keeps in the water. He thinks he can sail 5 more years. I bought my Macgregor from the original owners back in 2004. They kept the boat in the water during the season. They were turning 80 and giving up on sailing. Kruzen sailed with me at 85.

I could keep going, but:

I don't trailer any more stay in water on Bay Springs Lake year round.  It is a beautiful lake but not the best for sailing, more often than not I find myself motoring.

My ratio of "work on the boat" to "use the boat" has dramatically gone in the wrong direction.

Most importantly, my sailing partner is/was my wife.  Unfortunately she has aged out in that her back can't handle the absence of standing headroom below and a head that doesn't require you to tear up the bed in the middle of the night if you have to use it. I find that for us being on the water particularly overnight on that beautiful lake, is more important than actually sailing.

So considering solutions that would bring her back. They exist, but might not include a pole in the middle of the boat with piece of canvas on it. We'll see.

I hear ya. The one main reason I'm planning on buying the Hunter 19 is my wife. 20 years ago we saw one and she liked it. Question is: will she still like it? I'm hoping so gonna try. I don't like leaving her out of what I do, occasionally but not on a regular basis.

Happy early birthday!
