Unusual indeed! Funny how this snow went south of us here in the south. I looked at the radar yesterday and it was snowing in Corpus Christi!

My grandson is in Pensacola. Under snow and 18 there this morning. We're at 10 degrees.

It was 0f in central Ohio last night. This morning I'm driving the truck w/camper to Michigan. It will actually be a little warmer there tonight, maybe 9f. I'm sitting in a rest area right now, letting the camper warm up. The propane heater doesn't work when I'm going 70. I think that it gets a little breezy in here, but not sure. I do have ac power when I'm driving but I can't run a regular space heater, even on half power. I need to try a 300 watt heater. A 140w incandescent light bulb keeps my battery compartment at 50f. Lithium phosphate batteries do not like the cold.

I've been here for 20 minutes and the propane heater has toasted the camper up to 65f. Time to get back on the road. The XC ski trails await.

We're calling it Snowmegadon LOL! Today we all gathered at my daughter's house and built snowmen and had a snowball fight. It was grand because the temp warmed up from those 20s for a while and it was beautiful. The kids, full of energy from being inside, had a blast. And I did too. TONIGHT is when it will be dangerous as the sun has melted some of it and it is supposed to get back down to 17F. Everything is still shut down and hardly any traffic about. Mother Nature has put a pause in and we'll just have to wait!

The campervan we bought a few months ago has 600ah of lithium and a 3000w inverter.  That combination will run all our AC needs, including the air conditioner/induction cooktop/other appliances without being plugged into shore power.  It's all pretty high tech... until Mother Nature intervenes with cold.  Below about 35º, the lithium batteries won't take a charge until they are "warmed up" (either by running the engine, which has an aux 280 amp alternator, or plugging into shore power and turning on the inverter); into the 20s, the lithium batteries shut down.  So much for high tech.  The "high tech" Truma heater isn't supposed to be run while going down the road (but the dash heater will keep the van comfortable while driving).

Propane doesn't flow as well at bitter cold temps - kind of a paradox, since that is when you need it most if running propane heat.

Yes, we knew all this going into this change of RV.  Living in Arizona, we don't plan to do any cold-weather RVing.  When we lived in Texas and would come to Arizona each winter to visit our daughter and son-in-law, we'd have to deal with cold at high elevations along the way.  No need for that these days.

A few RVs ago, we had a diesel pusher motorhome that had heated bays, all the water tanks and water lines were in heated compartments... except the fresh-water water pump.  (Who thought that was a good idea?)  A 100w incandescent light bulb in a trouble light would keep that small compartment toasty even in freezing temps.

Arizona (at least the Phoenix area) was spared from this recent cold wave.  Joan did cover a half dozen fairly recent plants... it got down to 30º right before dawn a couple nights this week.  That's more than enough cold for me.

Stay warm out there.

Here in eastern NC we received 6" of the white powder.  Sat out back next to a fire for hours.  Went on a walk in fresh, undisturbed snow.  About a half hour ago I tried making a snowman, but it's still too cold too pack.  It does look strange sitting on the palms.
