Yes, a tragic accident. However the article is short on details. Just outside the area I normally sail (Long Island Sound) there is barge and freight traffic to and from NYC. Generally they stay on a predicable course and speed. Barges are often towed and the danger is the tow cable, if you try to pass between the tow boat and the barge. My grim prediction is that the skipper of the sailboat did something wrong, sadly taking the lives of two children.

Indeed short on details. I hesitated posting for that very reason.

 Didn't the article say something about a capsized "vehicle"?
