Greetings fellow sailors. Long time since I lurked or posted here, but in cleaning out my garage I came upon our community Loos gauge (Model 91, for cable sizes 3/32, 1/8,5/32 - otherwise know as P21 and smaller). Old timers here may recall that this was donated to me by a forum participant, and we shared it around by mail. I need to send this off to someone here who can use it, individually or collectively. A Loos gauge allows "quick and accurate adjustment of sailboat shrouds and stays." I will gladly mail to you.

(Meanwhile, I continue to sail on Godspeed, Discovery, and Susan Constant, the Jamestown square rigged tall ships.)

Wow, is that you Richard? Long time no hear from! I believe I was the last one to send that gauge back to you, what, 4 or 5 years ago? Time's fun when you're having flies!  ;D

Great to hear that you're still active on the square riggers!

Indeed it is I. Preparing for our annual Fall Voyage, this time to the Sultana Downrigging Festival in Chestertown, MD, on the Chester River. Several east coast tall ships will be there (Sultana, Dove, Kalmar Nickel, Lynx, Pride of Baltimore II, etc.). A fun time, good food and music.

Sounds awesome! Only 3 trips so far for me this year, Chula Vista in April, which was basically weathered out except a really fun dock cookout, a great trip out to Catalina in June, and a great Channel Islands trip earlier this month. Have a Mission Bay trip planned for late October as well.

You mentioned Pride of Baltimore: the guy who is now the "commodore" of the WCTSS, the group I used to sail with in FL, was once crew on that ship. Small world ...

Thanks Frank, all is well here in the southern end of our Bay. Now, if we could just get rid of this tropical weather and get back to Fall sailing.....

Andiamo23

Hello,

Old timer Precision 23 sailor here just getting back into sailing.  I neglected my P23 Andiamo for several years due to health issues and now I'm working on getting the boat, as well as myself, back into shape.

I recently completed replacement of the forward bulkheads and chain plates.  I could really use the Loos gauge to help me tune the rig.  Is it still available and how can I arrange to borrow it.

Kind Regards,

John North

John, if Richard (CaptGodspeed) doesn't reply here, I would suggest sending a PM via the board messaging service. Failing that, I believe I have his email address.

John/Andiamo, I remember you (and your boat's name) from my earlier years here on the forum. Great to hear from you and learn that you are able to get back on the water. I will happily send on the Loos gauge and its instructions to you, just send me your snail mail address. As for me, I continue to sail the square rigger fleet of the Commonwealth (Discovery, Godspeed, and Susan Constant) based in Jamestown. Tomorrow we motor Godspeed to the yard for biannual bottom work. Gonna be a frosty voyage, but we damn the icicles, grab the tiller and go full speed ahead! Richard

I have left msg for you John in your Inbox but have not heard back. To prevent harvesting, I will provide here a phonetic version of email so that you can send me your mailing address and I can then send you the Loos gauge. it is my initials and last name (all one word) at gmail    are why schauffler

Thanks, I hope to hear from you soon.

Richard
