RICHMOND-ANGEL ISLAND Tune-up Weekend
Join the Potter Yachters for the first sail of the year at Marina Bay Yacht Harbor in Richmond. We will try for a 10 AM launch on Saturday, Feb. 7th. If this is your first sail of the year or your first sail ever, bring your boat and your questions—there will be enough "old salts" there to help you rig and launch. New for 2026, we're set to overnight on Saturday at the Point San Pablo Yacht Club https://www.pspyc.org located at the end of the Santa Fe Channel. We'll use their docks, clubhouse and bar. Members with campers or vans are welcome to park overnight in the club's lot should they prefer not to sleep aboard (or even bring) their boats.

Marina Bay is a great place to build "tiller time" as you can stay within the harbor itself or head down the Potrero Reach. Both are generally protected waters with nearly flat sailing. Depending on who shows up, we may split into two groups—those who opt to stay in the Reach and those who'd rather head out onto the Bay, possibly to circumnavigate Angel Island. Either way, plan to carry a charged VHF radio, and wear your PFD.

The tides look generally favorable for Angel Island. Low tide will be at 10:09 AM and high tide at 4:07 on Saturday. You should only attempt this sail if you have good skills, a reliable motor, and a reliable VHF radio. Find the full safety guidelines here.

Those making this a day trip will return to Marina Bay. Everyone else will sail to the PSPYC, arriving by late afternoon. Our plan is to hang out in the clubhouse for a low-key evening of pizza and beverages. The PSPYC is a non-profit outfit run by volunteers. We've been asked for   for a donation of $25 per boat for the visit.

It costs $12.50 to park and launch for the day at Marina Bay, and $25 to launch and park for two days. You will need a credit card for the iron ranger.

Some Potters may plan to arrive on Friday and make a long weekend of it, spending Friday night at Marina Bay. To reserve a slip, contact Marina Bay Yacht Harbor. You will need to tell them the nights you plan to stay and provide your vessel registration information and proof of insurance. You can also do this by requesting a transient slip from Dockwa (https://dockwa.com/explore/destination/g9cm15-marina-bay-marina). Please make your reservation before arriving at the harbor. There are limited staff available, and they vastly prefer that people handle the paperwork before arriving.

Marina Bay's number is (510) 236-1013.

There are two restaurants nearby the Marina. The group will probably get together for dinner Friday evening.

Weather permitting, we'll be there Saturday with the trimaran. If you know anybody looking for one, it's for sale!

I will arrive Saturday morning with riptide, and will stay over Sat. nite. with early return on Sunday.

Oops! We have too many boats!
We changed our minds--we are bringing the Monty down for this instead of the trimaran (It's still for sale, though, hint... hint...). We'll be there bright and early Saturday and stay overnight at the PSPYC with the group Saturday night. Do we need to let them know?

BTW: Marina Bay parking is $17 per day now.

No need to let PSPYC know. I'm keeping them updated on expected turnout. We're at 10 boats already!

Looks like a good group!  Feel free to contact me if need assistance in your tune up.

I haven't heard anything back from KKMI about Parson's Ghost work being completed, and I'm going to be out of town until Friday afternoon.  So my attendance likelihood has slipped from "possible" to "unlikely" bordering on "snowball's chance"

If I manage to turn up, it'll likely be as a Sunday only affair.  Y'all planning on sailing Sunday, or just pulling out after breakfast?

PS: Funny to see my post counter here showing only "3" posts.  Back in the early 00's I was a regular denizen of the TSBB.  But there's been a couple of tech re-homings since then.

We are planning to be there Saturday morning and stay for night.  Dave&Brenda

We are planning to bring the P-15 and daysail on Saturday, heading home in the evening.

Hey Folks,

I finally updated the Potter Yachter calendar event for this weekend's trip with the kind of info I find useful. I hope we can do something like this for all events so the information is on my phone for speedy reference. Feedback welcome here, throw kelp at my prop--you'll think of something.

Anyone else coming Friday to stay at Marina Bay? I'm bringing my Monty 15 up tomorrow, probably have her launched by 11 am ish. Planning to eat Friday dinner at one of the nearby haunts in case someone wants to join.

We'll be launching Saturday morning and pulling out earlyish on Sunday to make the drive home. At least, that's the grand plan.

Gary?

I thought George was the coordinator for this event?
-SteveH

Parsons Ghost work not complete yet.  So I won't make this one.  sorry.

Sorry to miss you. Officially, I think Eric is the coordinator, George is assisting... Me? I'm definitely not hosting the trip--I'm the self-appointed calendar editor this year, Phil was happy to get some help with it (so far).

For this trip, I wrote up what I find myself trying to put together before every trip--exactly where to drive and park; URLs and phone numbers for reservations; some useful waypoints on the water. By adding details to the calendar event, it's auto-magically on the phone of anyone who subscribes to the PY calendar without having to look for a newsletter PDF the night before (or after missing a turn on the way to Lake San Antonio last October)... [end of sales pitch, how am I doing?]

Good luck with your ghost work.
