TSBB General Talk / Re: OT: Yards and yard work

The Water Wars.

WaterWar I, decades ago the then Mayor of the City of Washburn thought it would be a good idea for a major "European" bottle water company to put in a facility utilizing the extremely high flow artesian wells found around Thompson's West End Park. You know, "good paying jobs and a waste having the water flow back into the Lake...." Not. Ends up just a few new poor paying jobs would have been created. No one wants any form of commercial development on prime recreational lake front property. Major local opposition. Maybe why she failed to get reelected. Among other reasons.

WaterWar II, more recently. Similar issue. Tapping the artesian wells, but along the northern side of the Bayfield Peninsula.  Again, major local opposition.  This time the judicial system squashed that attempt.  Maybe due to the Great Lakes Compact preventing diversion of Great Lakes water?

People and $$$$$s. Wake up. Somethings are "priceless".

Another Tangent though.  Our wonderful 7th Congressional Rep who only cares about us during elections season. The four northern counties of the district that border L. Superior add up to an insignificant population relative to the rest of the district.  Wants to change the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore into WI only National Park. I guess he needed to put something on paper that said he did something over the last session of the House of Rep.  Again $$$s. Notes it would bring economic development to the region. No one up here wants more of the "economic development" envisioned by doorknob rep. Tom.  He didn't communicate or consult with the Tribe, the County Board, the Cities of Bayfield and Washburn, the Township Boards that are adjacent to the National Lakeshore. He claims he did. No one seems to remember any communication. Does the Mayor of Hayward,WI that is located +60 miles inland count? He could have picked up a few +s if he would have addressed our lack of housing. Affordable and otherwise. An issue that will just get worse if his concept of bringing in more people with great paying jobs that "will" occur with a designation change for National Lakeshore to National Park. Doorknob!!

It's nice to see you back. My friend who lives outside of Sydney has often talked about a favorite visit place in Tasmania, even sending me some photos of Port Davey. He would like it to be his retreat, but like me, at our age our minds are fine for wandering but our bodies want to stay near our physicians.

The first two photos remind me of cruising Holland canals and lakes. The mooring can be similar with water to soil, but there can be spots with bollards. Many boats carry large corkscrew mooring tools which get screwed into the ground to take mooring lines. The biggest difference is that inshore of the mooring area is always a dike topped with a bicycle or auto path.
There is no question that Holland has no such thing as out back. One is always only a few hours away from a pub or dunny.
Your timing is also good as Thursday is my Vegemite breakfast morn.

TSBB General Talk / Trailer Sailing Cruising Austr...
Last post by Grith - Nov 13, 2024, 04:15 PM
Just to let lurkers and contributors here know that the Facebook page I created several years ago for those using trailer sailers as alternatives to cruising yachts has now become very active with nearly 4000 participants and daily posts, comments and updates.
Trailer Sailing Cruising Australia is focussed on precisely its name and precludes for sale adverts wishing to concentrate on trips, modifications, destinations and general trailerable yacht conversations and not become just yet another selling forum.
Personally I have finally had the Imexus 28 out again for a short three day cruise in company with the Trailer Sailer Association of South Australia as they conveniently started their latest short cruise from my retirement home's location in Wellington East.
Since purchasing again here last year our yacht has sat neglected on its trailer as we first completed a three month already booked camper tour of Tasmania ( too expensive to take the yacht on the ferry ) and then have been stuck extensively renovating our new "forever" waterfront home.
We are finally about to move in and just awaiting kitchen and laundry bench tops to complete everything but landscaping/gardens.
Next planned cruise is for about 2 months on the Gippsland Lakes and surrounds in Victoria as our 3 month Kimberley's adventure plan has been delayed a year until 2026 as we have found a couple of other yachts with similar itinerary going then and plan to join up.
Picture 2 Was a TSASA members very clever bank boarding plank idea.
Picture 3 and 4 our new water front home with 50 metres of waterfrontage and our own boat ramp, jetty and pontoon. Surprisingly cheap by expensive Australian standards due to its a bit unknown and quirky location.
Trailer sailer owners heaven!

If you are hungry, you are hungry.
I've heard it said that humans can eat C-rats and MRE's.

It's warm that's for sure. We're still getting the breath of the Caribbean flowing up out of the southeast and it is warm and humid. A bad combination, Winds are around 15 kts, and have been nudging more easterly at times, and probably will continue, until we get a hurricane or a frost. Whichever comes first :) I'm busy chasing water leaks in a house. I hate plumbing. I'm having to make numerous trips to the shop and S R Cat's mast is just glowing in the dim light. Maybe Thanksgiving will be more pleasant, but November has been stormy down here since day 1. We finally got rain to end the drought. A good slow rain over a couple of days and it's been misty for a week or more. The last two times I've fished it has been sprinkling. So the stage is set for cooler weather. Tornados...hurricanes....drought. It sure is nice when the sun comes and it finally cools off! It's just weather.

She posted on Facebook, "Not my circus; not my monkeys."

But I don't know any more than that.

Well I gotta ask, hadn't kept up with Charlie and Isy, but wondering if those monkeys that took it on the lam around Beaufort, SC were those from the island of monkeys Isy tended to in that area.
